Hoofcare is most important for the well-being of all horses whether they are shod or bare-footed, whether in paddocks, yards or boxes, whether in work or being spelled.

The most important item in your grooming kit is a hoof pick.

You should pick out your horses feet before and after working it to ensure that :

• Remove all manure and stable rubbish from the sole.
• Check on the condition of the frog, sole and hoof wall of the unshod horse.
• On the shod horse check for loose nails or a lost shoe.
• Check for stones, nails, wire, glass or any other foreign body which may be wedged in the sole.

Always brush the feet before applying any hoof dressing
